WATER BASE COATING

November 9, 2017

Water base paint or most commonly known as latex, however is worth mentioning latex is not the main binder in latex paint which is a little ironic, the main binder in water base paint is acrylic and some other binders like vinyl ,acetate/ethylene and so forth, with that said water base paint is good for general painting projects interior or exterior, it also comes in all finishes and sheens it’s easier to work with and dries more quickly than oil paint.

When it come down to good quality and prices it’s important to know that the higher the acrylic binder is precent in the paint the more expensive and quality your paint would be so when you buy cheap paint it basically mean that your paint contains probably 40% to 30% acrylic binder in it.

Today, water-based paint account for approximately 80% of paint sold in the residential marketplace.  Additionally, this class of paint has moved into all sorts of industrial applications, including maintenance coatings for steel and concrete.

Water-based paints are used more than oil-based paints thanks to their many advantages:

5 advantages of water based paints.

1.- Water base coating emits low volatile organic Compounds which means lower health risks ,Many solvents evaporate into what are known as volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. VOC can cause headaches, eye irritation, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. Long-term exposure can lead to more serious health problems like central nervous system, liver, and kidney damage.

2.- Quick drying

Water based paint dries as fast as water evaporates. Which means that you can apply multiple coats the same day saving you time. A little tip: run a dehumidifier in a room that was painted with water based paint it will dry faster as the dehumidifier removes moisture from the air.

3.- Easy cleanup of tools

Just mix warm water and mild soap. Dip the paint brush into the mixture, working the soap through the brush bristles. Follow with a clear water rinse.

After cleaning, remove excess solvent or water by spinning the paint brush.

You can use a paint brush comb as one of the best ways to clean a paint brush. This tool is very useful in cleaning through the center of the brush and removing any residue near the ferrule's edge. Once clean, use the paint brush comb to straighten the bristles, then store brushes by hanging them. Never store a paint brush on its tip, which can damage it.

4.- Paint colors don't yellow with age

Which is going to save you money. The term yellowing describes the discoloration effect that occurs naturally on ageing, when an alkyd (oil-based) enamel paint is used indoors. It is most noticeable in situations where the natural lighting is poor.

5.- Flexible finish that resists cracking.

Quality latex paints are durable and highly flexible. They tend to adhere extremely well to a variety of exterior surfaces, which means they have greater resistance to blistering, flaking or peeling plus they are resistant  to cracking.
